With my bump clearly visible now, the Morning Lavender team and I wanted to share some maternity-friendly pieces from our boutique. It’s hard to believe but I did not buy one single maternity item through my pregnancy. I basically found items in my closet (or at our warehouse) that was bump friendly – looking for items that had stretch and overall just comfortable to wear. I tried on a ton of “maternity” items from other shops but I found maternity wear to be too big on me even with my bump. I also love the fact that I can wear these pieces again after I give birth.
So I and one of our favorite Morning Lavender models, Britney (who is also pregnant) tried on some of our favorite maternity-friendly pieces from Morning Lavender and filmed this fun maternity try-on video describing why these outfits work for all you pregnant ladies:
We showed an assortment of items from dressy to casual to work. I know just by looking at these photos that I’m going to miss my bump so much! I can’t wait to meet baby boy though!
Here are some tips when looking for bump friendly non-maternity items:
DRESSES
1. Everyday – I look for loose fitting, free flowing dresses like the Kayla Striped Dress or the Brooklyn Maxi Dress. Both have a lot of stretch and it’s been fun to see how my bump has grown in them!
2. Work/Office – For the office, shift dresses are great – you can still look professional and be comfortable at the same time!
3. Dressy – Wrap dresses are amazing whether you are pregnant or not because the waist is adjustable. I also love that you can breastfeed easily in these dresses after the baby is born! I’ve also worn dresses with back zippers where I just go one size up than I normally wear which is what I did for my baby shower. It really depends on the dress but it worked in this lace dress because the straps were adjustable so the bust area one size up fit for me as well. The Angelina Maxi Dress we both wore here comes in 3 colors (perfect if you are having a boy or girl) and has no zippers which makes it so easy to wear. I didn’t have to size up!
BOTTOMS
I’ll be honest – I lived in leggings since I was pregnant during the colder months. I tried the maternity band thing but it wasn’t very comfortable for me and I still couldn’t zip my pants up all the way. I also tried maternity leggings but they felt too thick for me. I just stuck with my Uniqlo Heattech Leggings because they were thick enough and also had a higher, stretchy waist. I would pair the leggings with longer pullover sweaters or tunics. For dressier occasions, I would wear maxi skirts and if they had a side zipper like our popular Amelia Maxi Skirt, I would go one size up and have the waist start above/on top of the bump like I did on our babymoon. Britney and I also tried on tulle skirts for y’all and these are super easy to wear and perfect for maternity shoots or baby showers. I’m wear the Eloise Dusty Rose Tulle Skirt which has an elastic waist so I didn’t need to size up.
