Yesterday I shared a lovely 1930s look and today I wanted to share a lil’ tutorial on how to achieve the hair for the look. First of all I want to say that I’m not good with hair…at all. I have super fine and super straight hair that I never knew what to do with. Probably up until a year ago, I hardly even used a blow dryer. I know – not very girlie of me. It wasn’t until recently that I got better at curling my own hair and thank goodness for whoever came out with those top knot sock bun things for truly bad hair days. And thank goodness for super talented hair and makeup friends like Ting who can help me look better than I ever could. I asked Ting to help me with this 1930s dry fingerwave hair tutorial so you all could try this at home too. And since you are probably better than me at doing hair, it’s something totally doable and fun to try.

Thanks to the hubs for the photos and Ting for the tutorial!

Supplies:
Comb
Paddle brush
3/4″ curling iron (size of barrel depends on hair length)
Large finger wave clips
Hairspray

Step 1: Section the hair
Create a deep side part (either left or right). Section the hair into 3 section, you should have two sections on either side of your head dividing from the your ear forward, and on large section in the back (you can use a comb to section the hair).

Step 2: Curl the hair
Start with the side of your head with more hair.
Section out individual small sections with about an inch per section.
Start curling each section horizontally (be sure to use a Marcel Curling Iron for better results)

Spray each section of the hair after you curled each strand.

Once you get to the top of the head, be sure to use over directing technique to curl the hair.

Repeat the same steps for the other side of your head.

Step 3: Brush out the curls
Once done curling both sides of the head, gently brush waves from the bottom up with a large paddle brush to set wave pattern.

Step 4: Pin the Hair and set the wave
Take 6-8 long large hair clips and place each of them at the bottom of each curl to set the wave. Hairspray both sections after pinning.

Same with step 2 and curl each section horizontally.

Brush it out and hairspray.

Step 6: Once the back is done, take out all the large pins on the two front section of your head.

Step 7: If you don’t have enough time to set your curls/wave, you can add extra definition to your fingerwave curls by depressing the barrel of your curling iron into the valley of each wave and put it up with your hand in order to create a more defined peak.

And voila! You have a gorgeous dry fingerwave 1930s hairstyle for your next night out!
